Questions

[edit]

Does iPhone Duo have Face ID?

No. iPhone Duo uses Touch ID built into the side button, and can also be unlocked with an Apple Watch. It is the first flagship iPhone in several years without Face ID, a point raised repeatedly in launch coverage and on X.[1][3][4]

Does it support Apple Pencil?

Not at launch. Apple says support for Apple Pencil (USB-C) on both the inner and outer displays will arrive in a software update later in 2026. No date has been given.[5][6]

Is it eSIM only?

Yes. Every iPhone Duo in every market uses eSIM only; there is no physical SIM tray in any configuration.[1][3]

Does it have a telephoto lens?

No. The rear system has a 48 MP main and a 48 MP ultra wide camera. A 12 MP optical-quality 2× crop from the main sensor stands in for a telephoto, with digital zoom up to 10×. The iPhone 18 Pro has a dedicated 4× telephoto.[1][7]

How thick and heavy is it?

Apple lists 5.2 mm thick when open and 11.3 mm when closed, and a weight of 254 g. Closed, it measures 117.8 mm by 84.1 mm. Apple says it is the thinnest iPhone when open.[1][5]

What is the crease like?

UNKNOWN Apple has not published a crease measurement. It says the nano-texture finish on the inner display reduces the visibility of the fold, and that the hinge supports the centre of the panel so it lies flat. Independent testing is not yet available.[6][8]

Is it waterproof?

It is water-resistant, not waterproof. Apple rates it IP68, which it defines as surviving immersion at up to 6 metres for up to 30 minutes.[1]

Which countries get it first?

The first wave on 23 October 2026 covers more than 70 countries, including the US, UK, India, China, Japan, Australia, Canada, Germany, France, the UAE, Singapore, South Korea, Brazil, Mexico, Vietnam and Türkiye. A further 28 countries follow on 30 October 2026.[5]

What is Split View?

Split View is an iOS 27 feature that shows two apps side by side on the inner display. It supports two windows of the same app, saved app pairs, drag-and-drop between halves, and a Siri conversation beside other content. It is the first time an iPhone has offered this.[5][6]

What comes in the box?

Apple lists the iPhone Duo and a 1-metre USB-C charging cable. No power adapter is listed. Fast charging needs a USB-C adapter of 60 W or more, sold separately.[1]

How much RAM does it have?

UNVERIFIED Apple does not publish RAM figures. Third-party specification databases list 12 GB, but Apple has not confirmed this, and no teardown has been published yet.[9][10]

What is the battery capacity?

UNKNOWN Apple does not publish a mAh figure. It uses two cells, one in each half, and rates video playback at up to 31 hours on the inner display and 44 hours on the outer display, or about 24 hours in mixed use.[1][5]

When can I pre-order, and when does it ship?

Pre-orders open at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on Friday 16 October 2026. First deliveries and in-store availability begin Friday 23 October 2026.[5]

How much does it cost?

In the US, US$1,999 (256 GB), US$2,199 (512 GB), US$2,599 (1 TB) and US$3,199 (2 TB). In the UK it starts at £1,999, in India at ₹2,99,900 and in Germany at €2,299. Nine countries are listed on the price page.[11][12][13][14]

What colours are available?

Two: Star White and Night Sky.[5]

Is the inner camera visible?

The FaceTime camera sits under the inner display and Apple says it is hidden when not in use. DOCUMENTED Some early hands-on posts on X reported that the camera area is visible under certain lighting; independent reviews have not yet been published.[5][15]

Does it use the same chip as iPhone 18 Pro?

Yes. iPhone Duo uses the A20 Pro, the same 2 nm chip as the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, mounted in a new package bonded to a vapour chamber.[5][6]

Can it stay half open?

Yes. Apple says the hinge can be held at intermediate angles, and iOS 27 moves content away from the fold when the device is partially open. Apple also describes hands-free video recording with the device propped open.[5][6]

Does it charge with MagSafe?

Yes. iPhone Duo supports MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging at up to 25 W, reaching 50 percent in about 30 minutes. Both Apple cases are MagSafe-compatible.[1][5]

How does it compare with the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra?

The Samsung is thinner, about 39 g lighter, has a larger 8-inch inner display and a 3× telephoto lens, but carries an IP48 rating and no stylus support. The iPhone Duo is IP68, brighter on Apple's figures, and is due to gain Apple Pencil support. Details are on the comparison page.[16][1]
